The following middle school students represented Schuylkill Haven Area Middle School in the PMEA District 10 Elementary Band Fest hosted by the Mahanoy Area School District: Adrianna Grubel, flute; Cooper Marx, percussion/timpani; Elijah Scherer, mallets; Sadie Tokarick, alto saxophone; and Violet Urban, flute. Students rehearsed all afternoon and performed an excellent concert with guest director, Dave Schmaldienst. Congratulations to these fine young musicians!

Today's Trails Trip was to Memorial Lake State Park in Dauphin County. Our students got some experience paddle-boarding.

The Schuylkill Haven Area Middle School musical will be held this Friday, May 5th at 7:00pm in the Schuylkill Haven Area Middle School Auditorium. Admission is $5. Doors open approximately 6:15pm (all audience members must use the Auditorium entrance on HAVEN street). Concessions will be available for purchase. All students who wish to be in the audience must be accompanied by an adult.

What's Dear Edwina Jr. about? Advice giver, Edwina Spoonapple and her friends put on a show in her backyard hoping a talent scout will choose them for the Kalamazoo Advice-a-palooza! Edwina and her friends answer letters from kids regarding pressing issues like: sibling issues, picky eaters, how to set the table, and how to make friends in a new place. Several song and dance numbers feature our amazing cast!

Students in the Gifted Program from the Middle and High School had fun today at an escape room and Urban Air.
In March, the Schuylkill County Mental Health and Developmental Services held a poster contest for 4th and 5th grade as part of their Mental Health Awareness Month activities starting in May. This theme this year was “Be a Mental Health Super Hero”. 5th Graders Sadie Tokarick won 3rd place and Alivia Wolfgang was an honorable mention. Sadie’s poster will be turned into a billboard located just south of the Freeze on Rt 61. Alivia’s poster will be made into placements for surrounding restaurants. Both students earned a certificate and won a prize! Great job Alivia and Sadie!
The Schuylkill Haven Area Middle School Chorus members were gifted a souvenir photo of their trip to the State Capital. Chorus members wish to thank Representative Tim Twardzik and Representative Jaime Barton for the amazing signed photos! The Chorus enjoyed their visit on March 16th to meet Senator Argall, Representative Barton and Representative Twardzik, tour the capital and perform on the rotunda stairs. The photos are a keepsake that our Chorus members will treasure!
On Wednesday, April 19th, Mr. Dean took two groups of students for trails trips to “Fighter’s Heaven: Muhammed Ali’s Training Camp” in Deer Lake. Students learned about how and why the 3x World Heavy Weight Champion came to Schuylkill County to train in the later stages of his career. The students received tours of the camp and got to experience replicas of items Ali used during his time there.
Schuylkill Haven Middle School is selling baseball caps for Mini Thon. Deadline is Monday, April 24th. Baseball caps are $10.
We spent the morning riding bike on the Swatara Creek Rail Trail. We started the day by going over safety tips on riding and different maneuvers. We stopped at different locations along the trail to eat lunch and to have group discussions. At the end of the day we went to a more advanced trail for anyone who wanted to attempt a more advanced trail.

The Schuylkill Haven Recreation Center has partnered up with the Schuylkill Haven High School Volleyball Team to hold clinics for younger players who are interested in playing and learning more about volleyball. Please see the attached flyer for information, dates, and cost. All funds will be going to the Schuylkill Haven Recreation Department.

Friendly reminder that physical exams are a requirement in grades K/1, 6 and 11. School physicals are scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 20th. All students are encouraged to be seen by their private physician. Please return the attached form (or you can download our form that is currently linked on the website) dated after June 1, 2022 to the school's nursing office by Wed, April 19th. If a completed form is not received students will be seen by our school physician, Dr. Joseph Zawisza.
The Schuylkill Haven Area Middle School Beginner Band and Advanced Band will present a spring concert "An Evening of Music" on Thursday, March 30th at 7:00pm in the middle school auditorium.
